Held in conjunction with our 125th Celebrations, and coinciding with South Africa's hosting of the Soccer World Cup, the Sport for All Conference aims to highlight the role of sport in schools - specifically primary schools - as well as examine related issues.

As such the Conference is aimed at Primary School coaches and school management.

There can be no doubt that sport plays a vital and integral part of school life and that it promotes many healthy attributes. Apart from the physical well-being of young and developing children there are other positive aspects such as self esteem, of being part of a group and the feeling of well-being associated with giving of your best for the sake of the team as well as the related skills of working well together.

Obviously there are also negative connotations such as exclusion and of not fitting in as well as a win at all costs approach. There are real concerns around correct coaching and conditioning in order to prevent injury and the use of stimulants to boost performance. Not to forget the poor umpire or referee and parent expectations!

The Sport for all Conference aims to highlight these and other issues as schools grapple with the need to promote sport on the one hand and to meet individual and parent expectations on the other.

Topics covered:
- Gender issues
- Age groupings
- Playing schools strength for strength
- Coping / dealing with parental expectations
- A holistic approach ie. making all sports "accessable"
- Inclusivity
- Coaching methods (very broad - individual sports)
- Modern trends
- Rugby - the New Zealand approach at primary school (age, height, weight)
- Coping with or providing for the non-sporty child.
- Coping with or providing for the gifted child
