St Andrews Prep celebrates 125 significant years:
The long procession sprinkled with children from age three to Old Preppies in their 80s, marked a celebration of a School that has significantly marked the lives of many generations.
With a lengthy line of trucks, vintage cars, singing children, bag pipers and donkey carts winding through Grahamstown, St Andrews Prep celebrated its 125th anniversary last week.

The parade, festooned with balloons and paper flowers, kicked off at the Fairlawn fields led by the St Andrews College Pipe Band, and wound its way up Bedford and Somerset Street, down High Street to park at the City Hall. The many colourful floats included a huge 'cake' on a tractor and trailer, a truck carrying the Prep Marimba Band, a game vehicle covered with banners, a fire engine and donkey cart supporting the Pre-Primary children's 'robot' and several vintage cars brought up the rear.
Along side the floats waving Prep flags, marched over 260 Preppies (from pre-primary to Grade 7), several DSG and College pupils, numerous Old Preppies, and many current parents and staff members.

One of the main focuses of the parade was to link with the broader Grahamstown community where balls collected by the Preppies were donated to the Sports and Recreation Departments to be used in existing Grahamstown schools sports programmes. The donated books were received by Patricia Vubela, a representative from the Makana Municipal Library, for distribution to needy schools and libraries in the Grahamstown area.

Guests were invited to tea in the city hall where a large blue and white cake was cut by Bill, William and Daniel Fowlds - three generations of Preppies.  Back at Fairlawn another cake was cut by Heidi, Amy and Laura Fowlds, Williams Fowld's wife and current Prep teacher and their two daughters currently at Prep.
