Journo visits Prep
Bryn Williams and Luke Harvey from St Andrew’s Prep School glean some insight from Duncan Guy, the editor of “Learn the News”, as to how journalists source much of their information from ‘The Wire.’ Boys in Grade 7 were able to assist Duncan in putting together the latest edition of “Learn the News’ which is an educational newspaper geared towards students and written in a language that children can understand and according to its editor, Duncan Guy, “… written sensitively to exclude much of the horror written about in the mainstream media”, Learn the News is a newspaper written for students, where the students themselves get to make contributions to the final product.”

Camp Out!
All the senior Prep boys from St Andrew’s Prep school enjoyed a good old fashioned camp out at the White’s “Table Farm” recently. Tents, reed wrestling, fire side songs, stories and games are what make for good memories. After packing up the next morning, the boys walked the 15kms back to school where a well deserved lunch awaited them at the Prep club house on their return. A shower and soft bed felt good that night, that’s for sure!

Grade 7 Go Cart Races
The go-cart race is a culmination of all the outcomes covered in the subject, Technology and the prep boys race each other every year. The design process starts with the conceptualization of the go-cart and the boys look at many existing designs. The second stage sees the boys design their own go-carts within certain constraints. The boys then spend a number of lessons building their go-carts and finally they test them! The race day was brilliant with the whole prep school turning out in support of the seven teams. The aspects of team work and collaboration are also tested and it is fun to see how the boys handle the stress of pushing and driving the go-carts. This year saw some spectacular accidents with one team crashing into a tap and sending water everywhere much to the delight of the crowds. Three prizes were awarded being the best dressed, best design and fastest on the track. The preppies are already looking forward to next year!
The crowds gather to watch the D&T Grade 7 go-cart races down at Fairlawn - and away they go!
Team Steer celebrate winning the fastest lap where the boys constructed thier own go-carts during the schools D&T classes.
